RE: Could use some input on riding areas around Tallahassee.

Check out Three Rivers SP
Florida Caverns SP
Both are close to Tallahasee
Thanks. Both of those look good, especially Three Rivers for the canoeing and fishing.
I was more interested in off-road riding areas.
Anyone? Bueller?

RE: Changing batteries

I had a neighbor that decided to put 12volt headlights on his golf cart. Only problem was he wired them to 48 volts. They burned VERY brightly for about 30 seconds. Then he went to buy another set of lights.

RE: Ants Ants Everywhere. Help!!

Having done a short career as a pest technician (bug man) in So Fla, I do know that some species of ants will "bud" if you spray them. They are "under attack", so one colony will divide into half-a-dozen more colonies and soon you'll have more ants than before. Different species react to different treatments in different ways. "Termidor", as mentioned above works well for most ants and roaches both. "Terro bait" is good, as well, and readily available at retail outlets. Boric acid (borax) has been used for decades and is still effective, and harmless.
Be sure to keep food debris and water sources (even a wet sink or shower) to a minimum. Also, they are attracted to electricity and electronics. Spray you shorepower cord.
Once they are under control, block re-entry by spraying any part of the RV that touches the ground (cords, hoses, jacks, tires) and be sure no branches or bushes are touching the outside of the RV.

RE: Have you done this?

Sure did. Wife found a ziplock in the cabinet of our tt that should have been put in the fridge. It was hard to ID but even though she is still not sure what it was she is absolutely positive that I'm the one that put it there :)
That's funny right there.
Our's was a half-bag of previously frozen broccoli from Memorial Day weekend in the freezer compartment of our pop-up. It was discovered in preparation for July 4th weekend. Yikes.

RE: Manual double steps

CW sells replacement steps in Single, Double, or triple -manual or electric- all bolt on. Most RV's have bolt-on steps, as they are often in need of replacement. According to the insurance people, your issue is second only to replacement of television antennas.
Double manual is # 37039.

Could use some input on riding areas around Tallahassee.

Employment has taken me to the Tallahassee area for a few months, and I'm taking along my toys to keep me entertained on my days off. There's a nice lake nearby on which I can launch the canoe and most likely not catch fish, but I'm not sure how to find riding areas for the buggy. Apalachicola National Forest is nearby, but haven't checked it out yet. I did pull into one State Rec area (Silver Lake), and saw a sign that said "OHV Trail Head". I checked it out, but didn't see any activity around there. Figured I'd check with the Forest Service office, but was wondering if anyone had any pointers.
Since it's just me, I'd be interested in any groups or clubs in the area, also.
Thanks,
Al

RE: Question about Ragen FSC2800

I thought he asked about a Rage'n.
My FSC2800 is a 2 axle. Came with E-rated tires, pulls great, No problems with carrying capacity.DOH!, I got caught up in the 2800. Does the Rage'n 2800 models come with 16" tires/wheels? If not I would think the same GVWR problems apply?
Yes, my Rage'n came with 16" wheels, 16" E-rated Maxxis tires, and has shocks on both axles. According to the sticker GVWR is 13K and CCC is 3795# with water and LP. The heaviest I ever loaded it with water, toys, gas, extra food, extra beer, extra clothes and it was still just under 12K.

RE: May not hear from me for awhile. - UPDATE

Well, I got here last Saturday after an uneventful trip from Ft Myers. I'm all set up in the CW parking lot, with a gorgeous view of the dumpster on one side and the back of the shop on the other. Sweeeeeet!
Work is good, and a couple of forum members have even stopped in and said "Hi".
Later,

RE: Short notice

Not only have we decided to leave on a whim after work on a Friday, but we've left with no destination in mind. Just drive until someplace catches our attention, or we get tired and pull over somewhere. We've done a Friday night in a Walmart, then a State Park Saturday, a different State Park Sunday night, and dropped DW at work on the way home Monday morning.

Thanks, Eycom. Sounds like good advice from someone with experience in the lifestyle.
Kirk, I do plan to take some fishing gear for my days off, although I don't feel the fish are in much danger.

RE: May not hear from me for awhile. - UPDATE

Good luck Al, I know you will make it. The carrier you built for us is now hauling a Wilderness Tarpon 120 Kayak, instead of the canoe, which we sold. We'll be back in the area in Oct, and will be going to KW, so may get to see you as we go through FM.
Bob,
I was just wondering how the canoe dolly worked out for you. I've only had to use mine a couple of times, but really saves time and effort when I do. I'm guessing in Oct I'll still be in Tallahassee, so stop by on your way and say Hi.

Looks like I'll be "testing the waters" of workamping.

It appears I've joined the ranks of workampers.
About a month ago I was laid off from my job at CW in Ft Myers due to lack of business. At the time I told my manager that, in order to stay with the company, I'd be interested in any other positions available in the SE United States. Since we still own a home and my wife has a job in Ft Myers, I didn't want to be TOO far away.
Well, a week later I got rehired to work the race in Daytona, and then go to Tallahassee as a Service Writer. After spending the balance of this week teaching Reeni how to clean the pool and mow the yard, I'll leave this Saturday for Tally, and start on Monday.
My Rage'n FSC 2800 Toy Hauler will serve as my domicile for the next 4-5 months, before returning to Ft Myers for the winter. We've spent several "extended" periods in the trailer before (weeks, not months), but I'm wondering if there's any pointers you fine folks can give me.
Thanks,
Al

RE: May not hear from me for awhile. - UPDATE

Have you decided on a CG? Tallahassee RV Park on Hwy 90 near I-10 is a nice park. Numerous legislators stay there in their RVs when in session. Can't remember cuz I use an air card. But, I think they have free WiFi if you have a cheap laptop. Check their monthly rates. Might fit your budget.
Tallahassee RV Park
That's exactly the CG my manager suggested. The associate I'm replacing is there now and says it's nice. I checked out their website and it looks good, so I'll investigate it when I arrive. The store has a few spots with water and electric, so I'll do that for the first few days and then move to a park.
Thanks to everyone for all the well-wishes. I've always had a sense of wonderlust, so Reeni and I are both looking at this as another adventure and a chance to test the waters of workamping. Additionally, I'm REALLY looking forward to some crisp, cool evenings this Fall.
What's the old adage? - "Be careful what you wish for." I had actually considered joining the CW "M.A.P" (Mobile Associates Program), just not this soon! I was a bit more than envious last May, when several of our crewmembers were "breaking camp", and heading for places like Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, and New Hampshire to work for the summer.
I know some of the computers at work will have internet access, so I may still be able to get on here a bit after hours.
Catch ya'll later,
Al
